Aflatoxin M1

Aflatoxins are carcinogenic, highly toxic metabolites of the mold fungus varieties Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. Aflatoxin M1 is produced as a metabolite of aflatoxin B1. It is secreted with the milk after the feeding of aflatoxin B1 content feedstuffs to lactating cows.

As aflatoxin M1 is relatively stable towards the pasteurizing process, not only a comprehensive routine check of the raw materials to be processed is required, but also of the final products.

Using the RIDASCREEN® Aflatoxin M1 assay, it is possible to detect this mycotoxin in milk, milk powder and cheese both rapidly and with accuracy.

Format: 96 well microtitreplate

Detection limit:
Milk, milkpowder < 10 ng/kg (ppt)
Cheese < 100 ng/kg (ppt)

Time requirement: Incubation time 2 h 30 min (regardless of the number of samples)

Sample preparation:
Degrease milk
Reconstitute and degrease milk powder
Extract and centrifuge cheese

Recovery rate:
Milk approx. 95 %
Cheese approx. 102 %

Cross reaction:
Aflatoxin M1 100.0 %
Aflatoxin B1 12.4 %
Aflatoxin G1 0.8 %
Aflatoxin B2 & G2 16 %

Samples per kit: up to 42 in duplicate

Standards: 0 / 5 / 10 / 20 / 40 / 80 ppt

Measurement: microtiter plate reader (450 nm)
