Results are fast and confirmed as soon as 26 hours versus the 69 hours required by conventional testing. You also get confirmation of all suspect isolates in just one procedure which means the Petrifilm format reduces your total cost per test. Based on the thermonuclease reaction. This Petrifilm test provides a rapid (26 hours) and confirmed result. The Petrifilm Rapid Staph Aureus (RSA) plate consists of two parts – the plate contains modified Baird-Parker nutrients with a cold-water-soluble gelling agent, and a Thermostable Nuclease (Tnase) reactive disk). Tnase is an enzyme produced by S. aureus that remains stable at high temperatures. Detection of TNase, like coagulase, is a confirmatory step. On the Petrifilm RSA plate, the Tnase reaction is evident as a pink zone around a red or blue colony. Click here to download a brochure for more information.
