Dexamethasone

Synthetic glucocorticoids are widely used in veterinary practice because of their marked anti-inflammatory and metabolic effects.

In addition, synthetic glucocorticoids increase blood glucose concentration, which render them useful for severely stressed horses. Administration of these drugs to horses under racing conditions is illegal as well as the use in the EU as a growth promotor.

Using the RIDASCREEN® Dexamethason assay, it is possible to detect this glucocorticoid in urine and plasma both rapidly and with accuracy.
