The early detection is due to Coliforms producing acid which is picked up by the Petrifilm plate. After 6 hours you may begin to identify presumptive coliforms. After 8 hours you may begin to identify confirmed coliforms. Total confirmed coliform counts are available from this Petrifilm plate at 24 hours.
